Tiles
Create a tile module that engages topographical form and expresses the relationship of part-to-whole when repeated. The phases of this project includes 2-dimensional drawings, folded paper, foam models, 3D printing, and creating molds for the final cast plaster tile.

1st Phase | Sketching

Final Phase | Casted Plaster Tiles
The first phase within the tile project was sketching. Given the boundary of a 3x3 inch square, 3-5 lines were used with at least one curved line and one straight line. These 2-dimensional sketches will be transferred into a 3-dimensional form using paper.

These paper models allowed for the exploration of the 2-dimensional drawings, to translate into a 3-dimensional form. The foam models below tested the relationship of part-to whole when the tile is repeated, along with the exploration of the form’s density.

The CAD models above were used to make 3D printed tiles. The printed tile would then be molded and casted in order to create the final form plaster.
